Red House at Moor Monkton, next to the River Nidd, was started by Sir Henry Slingsby c. 1606. The grounds surrounding it were developed by him and his son, Henry, over the next 40 years. These included a walled garden to the southwest with fishponds on the southern edge, an adjacent orchard and a deer park.
